During the COVID-19 pandemic, Americans received three rounds of stimulus package 2023 checks (officially called Economic Impact Payments) to help offset the impact of lost jobs and rising inflation. With inflation still high, many Americans are wondering if they’ll get another stimulus check-in 2023.
While the federal government’s pandemic-era aid programs have dried up, some states are continuing to dispatch stimulus-style payments. These are usually in the form of property or income tax rebates. New Mexico, for example, began sending out checks of $500 or $1,000 to low-income residents last month as part of a $15 million effort to distribute state surplus funds. Montana also has a surplus and has been offering rebates to residents, with the amount of each payment tied to the income levels listed on their 2021 federal tax returns.
Unpacking the Stimulus Package 2023: What You Need to Know
To receive a Montana property tax rebate, homeowners can file an online claim via the Department of Revenue’s TransAction Portal or by mail. The state is urging people to be vigilant and not fall prey to scammers who may call and say that they are collecting on behalf of the Department of Revenue.
However, it’s unlikely that the federal government will issue any more stimulus checks in 2023. Congress would have to pass a law authorizing such a payment, and that’s not looking likely.
